It’s a work on the message and teaching, and history of Mahatma Gandi along with a discourse by the mystic and poet Tagore.

The book has some unusual historical connections. It was given as a personal gift on Nov. 14th 1938 by The India Political Council, a revolutionary movement trying to overthrow British rule in India, probably penned by their secretary the science fiction writer Hans Stefan Santesson.

The recipient of the gift was the American Communist Sherman Stanley, private secretary to Leon Trotsky and the Socialist Worker’s Party’s India expert. Trotsky was the founder the leader of the Red Army, and a close confidant of Lenin who would be assassinated by Stalin just two years later. Sherman Stanley was the communist party name of Stanley Plastrik, nephew of the American Communist Party member Max Shachtman and associate of James Cannon (Socialist Worker’s Party).

The book has very light wear and is in it’s original covers. The inscription is in fountain pen on the interior pastedown.
